Job Description:

The Assistant Nurse is part of a community that creates an intensive four-week immersion program for middle and high school students each summer. Located on two campuses in Vermont, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy offers students the opportunity to study Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, or Spanish with skilled language educators. The Assistant Nurse will work closely with the Head Nurse to ensure the health and well-being of all students, and to assist with the daily operations of the Summer Academy health office.

 

Responsibilities:

Program Administration Responsibilities:

  • Address student and staff health issues and concerns utilizing appropriate interventions and treatments in a timely, safe and effective manner in compliance with state and federal healthcare standards including HIPAA.
  • Confidently and efficiently accept Head Nurse responsibilities in the absence of the Head Nurse.

  • Work closely with site leaders (Director of Residential Life, Language Directors, Site Manager) and promote cohesion and teamwork with staff.

 

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and confidentially maintain all student and staff medical records and documentation. Demonstrate confidence and expertise in laws and regulations governing these documents and procedures.

  • Accurately track student medications and medical appointments and accompany students to medical appointments in a timely and safe manner.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in dispensing prescription and OTC medications to students, treating student illnesses and injuries. Consistently follow processes to administer safe care.

  • Actively participate in health office team meetings. Practice open communication in all interactions.

  • Consistently communicate health information appropriately and professionally with parents and other staff members.

  • Utilize electronic clinic management system to document and manage student information

 

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Academy programming.

  • Work to continually maintain a high-quality summer Academy through interaction, participation and visibility throughout the program.

  • Support the Language Pledge.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively to parents, students and other staff.

  • Provide meaningful feedback to students.

  • Work with other faculty, staff, and site administrators to create a successful Academy.

  • Complete evaluations, reports and other documentation in a timely manner.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff.

 

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current RN unencumbered license in Vermont.

  • Experience working in a school or summer program setting is strongly preferred.

  • Current CPR certification.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record

  • Fluency in a foreign language is a plus

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must hold a current RN unencumbered license in Vermont

Current CPR certification.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:

This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board and will have two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations. Transportation from the local airport or train station is provided at both the beginning and the end of the program by MIL. Housing is not provided for family members.

Preseason communication and training may be required for this position.
