Job Description:

Health Assistants are part of a community that creates an intensive four-week immersion program for middle and high school students each summer. Located on two campuses in Vermont, Middlebury Interactive Languages Summer Academy offers students the opportunity to study Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, or Spanish with skilled language educators. Health Assistants work closely with the Nurses to ensure the health and well-being of all students, and to assist with the daily operations of the Summer Academy health office.


Operational Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and confidentially maintain all student and staff medical records and documentation. Demonstrate confidence and expertise in laws and regulations governing these documents and procedures.

  • Accurately track student medications and medical appointments and accompany students to medical appointments in a timely and safe manner.

  • Actively participate in health office team meetings. Practice open communication in all interactions.

  • Demonstrate proficiency and organization in medical office procedures and administrative tasks, consistently following all health office processes.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Academy programming.

  • Work to continually maintain a high-quality summer Academy through interaction, participation and visibility throughout the program.

  • Support the Language Pledge.

  • Communicate professionally and effectively to parents, students and other staff.

  • Provide meaningful feedback to students.

  • Work with other faculty, staff, and site administrators to create a successful Academy.

  • Complete evaluations, reports and other documentation in a timely manner.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge and utilization of the Academy policies and procedures to create a safe, supportive, rewarding environment for students and staff.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current CPR and First Aid training

  • Experience working in a school or summer program setting strongly preferred

  • 21 years of age or older for driving insurance purposes; possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work well under pressure

  • Fluency in a foreign language is a plus


This is a residential position. All employees will be provided room and board. They will have two full days off during the 4-week session. All employees pay for their travel to and from program locations. Transportation from local airport and train station is provided at both the beginning and the end of the program by MIL. Housing is not provided for family members.

Some pre-season phone calls may be required for training purposes.
